Welcome to Jui's Diaries!

Hello! I'm Jui Shah, student studying in grade 10.  I have a passion for writing and I created this lifestyle blog to pursue it. My blog is inspired by Meghan Markle's blog, The Tig . I love reading books and travelling, so expect to see a lot of book reviews (and ramblings) and travel diaries here! ;) Though I am no expert, I have developed a newfound interest in photography, and I will use the pictures clicked by me to adorn this little blog of mine.  Let me start off by saying that I adore books. I fell in love with reading at the age of four, and haven't looked back since. I read a variety of genres: crime, fantasy, humour, horror, mythology, friendship- you name it.  I read the Harry Potter books when I was nine, and I have become unhealthily obsessed with the Wizarding World ever since. Every time I re-read, I laugh loudly when Peeves torments Umbridge, cheer when Ron and Hermione finally ( finally! ) get together and cry when Harry looks into the Mirror of Erised. ...

Feminism: Why?

  Feminism is probably one of the most misunderstood things in society. How many times have people attacked the label "feminist"? How many times have people confused it with "hating men"? It's really important to know the real definition and principles of feminism, which is one of the biggest movements still continuing in the 21st century. What is Feminism? Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines feminism as " the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes". Many people wrongly equate it to misandry, or hatred of men, something akin to misogyny. Why "feminism"? Why can't it be called "equalism"? This is one of the most common arguments used against feminism. "If it is about equality of the genders, why is it called 'feminism'? That's because equality hasn't been achieved yet.
